How do I check if an investment platform is registered in Nigeria?
Search its name above. We check SEC Nigeria's directory of registered capital market operators, its register of fintech operators, its sandbox participants, its list of known investment scams and its public warnings. You can also search the SEC's own directory, linked above.
The app I use is not listed. Is it a scam?
Not necessarily. Many apps invest your money through a registered partner, such as a licensed fund manager or broker, whose company name is different from the app's name. Look for the SEC-registered company in the app's terms or website and search that. If the app cannot tell you which registered firm holds your money, do not invest.
What are the signs of a Ponzi scheme?
Guaranteed or very high returns, bonuses for recruiting friends, pressure to invest quickly, payments into personal accounts, withdrawals that get harder over time, and no SEC registration you can verify.
Does SEC registration mean my money is safe?
It means the firm is allowed to offer the services it is registered for and is supervised by the SEC. It does not guarantee returns or protect you from market losses, so still check fees, custody and withdrawal rules.
