Best stock apps in Nigeria: the quick answer

For most Nigerians who want both Nigerian and US stocks, Trove offers the broadest combination of markets and a low entry point. Bamboo is a strong alternative for investors who want a straightforward route to US and Nigerian shares. Chaka remains worth considering for local and international access, but investors should confirm its current charges in the app because a complete public fee schedule was not available during our September 2026 review.

  • Best for low starting amounts and broad market access: Trove
  • Best for a simple US-and-NGX experience: Bamboo

Important: A headline commission is not always the total cost. Funding charges, FX conversion, NGX/CSCS/SEC statutory fees, taxes and withdrawal fees may apply.

How we evaluated the apps

We reviewed platforms that let Nigerian retail investors choose and buy individual stocks. We checked five factors:

  1. Regulation and custody: whether the platform or its disclosed brokerage partner appears in the SEC Nigeria register and how US assets are held.
  2. Total cost: trading commission plus funding, conversion, withdrawal and statutory charges.
  3. Market access: NGX shares, US stocks, ETFs and fractional investing.
  4. Accessibility: published minimum investment and funding options.
  5. Transparency: whether current fees and regulatory relationships are explained publicly.

We did not award numerical scores because app features and charges change frequently and we did not execute identical live trades on every platform. Our conclusions are based on public information verified on 16 September 2026.

1. Trove: best for broad access and low entry amounts

Trove provides Nigerian shares, US stocks and ETFs. Its June 2026 guidance says users can begin with ₦1,000 for Nigerian stocks and $10 for US stocks. Trove’s public pricing page lists a 1.35% charge on local-share transactions, excluding statutory fees and taxes, and 1.00% on foreign-share transactions, excluding SEC and FINRA regulatory fees.

For Nigerian trades, Trove says it operates through Innova Securities Limited, its SEC-licensed broker-dealer. Its FAQ identifies DriveWealth as the US brokerage partner. Trove may therefore suit someone who wants one account for both NGX and US securities and is comfortable with a feature-rich interface.

Watch for: statutory trading costs, FX conversion and the risks attached to advanced features such as margin or day trading. Borrowing to invest can magnify losses as well as gains.

2. Bamboo: best for a focused US-and-NGX experience

Bamboo now offers both US and Nigerian shares. Its help centre says the minimum investment is $2 for fractional US stocks and ₦5,000 for Nigerian stocks.

For US trades, Bamboo publishes a 1.5% commission on buys and sells, subject to a $1 minimum. For NGX orders, Bamboo publishes a 1% platform commission plus statutory and other brokerage charges. It also lists a ₦45 withdrawal fee to a Nigerian naira account. Funding and currency-conversion costs vary by payment method, so compare the complete order preview rather than commission alone.

SEC Nigeria’s operator directory lists Bamboo Systems Technology Limited as an active digital and corporate sub-broker. Bamboo may be the simpler choice for investors who primarily want fractional US shares but also value access to Nigerian stocks.

Watch for: the $1 minimum commission makes very small US trades proportionally expensive. A $10 trade with a $1 minimum charge begins with a 10% cost before market movement or FX effects.

3. Chaka: a regulated alternative, but verify current costs

Chaka offers access to Nigerian and international investments. SEC Nigeria lists Chaka Technologies Limited as a digital sub-broker. Chaka’s compliance disclosure says Nigerian brokerage is facilitated by SEC-registered Citi Investment Capital Limited, while international investing is facilitated by US-regulated DriveWealth.

Chaka did not present a sufficiently complete, current public fee schedule for us to make a like-for-like cost calculation during this review. Before depositing, check the funding charge, FX rate, trading commission, withdrawal fee and any custody or transfer charges shown in the app.

Worked fee comparison

Suppose you buy $100 of a US stock. Based only on the published headline trading commissions:

  • Trove: approximately $1.00 at 1.00%, before regulatory and funding/FX costs.
  • Bamboo: approximately $1.50 at 1.5%, before funding/FX costs.

This is an illustration, not a quote. Exchange rates and other charges can change the actual amount substantially.

Are Nigerian stock apps safe?

Regulation reduces some operational risk, but it does not make an investment risk-free. Verify the platform and the named brokerage partner in the SEC Nigeria operator directory. Also confirm whose name appears on your contract note or CSCS record for Nigerian securities.

Stocks and investment wallets are not ordinary bank deposits and are not covered by NDIC deposit insurance merely because an app accepts naira. For eligible US brokerage accounts, SIPC protection may apply if the US broker fails and customer assets are missing; it does not cover normal market losses or a falling share price.

How to choose the right app

  1. Choose the market first: NGX, US stocks or both.
  2. Calculate the total cost for your normal trade size: a low percentage fee can still be expensive when a minimum charge applies.
  3. Verify regulation: search the legal company and brokerage partner, not only the app’s brand name.
  4. Start small: test funding, order execution, statements and withdrawal before committing a large amount.
  5. Avoid concentration: buying several fashionable shares is not the same as owning a diversified portfolio.

Frequently asked questions

Which stock app is best for beginners in Nigeria?

Trove is our best overall starting point for someone who wants both NGX and US investments with a low published minimum. Bamboo is a strong alternative if a simpler US-and-NGX interface matters more to you. Compare the actual order preview because your trade size and funding method can change which app is cheaper.

Which app has the lowest fees?

There is no universal winner. Based on published headline fees, Trove’s 1.00% foreign-share charge is below Bamboo’s 1.5% US-share charge. For Nigerian shares, total cost includes platform, brokerage and statutory charges, so compare a sample order of the same value in each app.

Can I buy Nigerian and US stocks from the same app?

Yes. Trove, Bamboo and Chaka all describe access to Nigerian and international securities, subject to onboarding, eligibility and product availability.

Do these apps guarantee my returns?

No. Regulation does not prevent market losses. Share prices, dividends and exchange rates can move against you, and you can lose part or all of the amount invested.
